Split faces

Click a plane, a datum or a face, set the offset, press Enter. The command cuts a surface, not material: there was one face, now there are two in the same plane. The body stays whole and nothing falls off.

What it is for

  • Painting part of a surface a different colour or giving it a different finish.
  • Setting a machining region: milling a piece of a plane rather than all of it.
  • Getting a face for a draft or a shell where there were no edges.
  • Giving a sketch or a joint an anchor exactly where it is needed.

What cuts it

A plane, a datum or another face. The cut line stays tied to whatever cut it: move the datum and the line follows.

Do not confuse it with “split body”

Split body turns one body into two. Here there is one body and two faces: once the part you wanted can be selected on its own, it is worked with like any other face.
